• Error when trying to backup 1 single nsf db..

By Mirco Pixin 2 decades ago

    Hi.

I'm working with this powerful project…

I'm using that together with an OpenSource backup project.

I've also modified original database (nbconf.nsf) to allow network mapping by parametric document, so it's possible to backup databases directly to a remote share.

If it could help or interest to someone, i could post that database in some way.

    Anyway, my problem is this:

if i define in the kBackup document only 1 database .nsf (example: apps\test_backup.nsf), and i try to run the task i've created with the nknback.exe, i see in the Domino console:

    25/10/2007 15.24.13 kNBack: Starting backup of apps\test_backup.nsf…

25/10/2007 15.24.13 kNBack: Could not create backup file z:\domino_backup

25/10/2007 15.24.13 kNBack: Backup failed for apps\test_backup.nsf, error: Cannot write or create file (file or disk is read-only)

If i choose a folder all work very very good!

It happens both with 1.03b and 1.04b.

    It happens only to me??

King regards and gooood job (and sorry for my poor english..)!

If I remember well, this error is because the database is in an old ODS format and doesnt have transaction logging support. Can you check that and tell me? I don't have much time to do debugging these days but I'll do what I can.

      • More Info

By Mirco Pixin 2 decades ago

Hi and thanks for the fast reply.

The situation described in my first post, happens with a Domino Server rel. 7.0.1 running both in a Win2003 Server R2 and in a Win2000 Server SP4.

The ODS version is 43 (so, it's right for the Domino release, isn't it?).

Transaction Logging of course is enabled.

I repeat that the problem is present only when i try to backup a single database; if i backup the folder that contains this database kNBackup runs perfectly and backups all the databases inside that folder without problem.

Hope that these more infos help you.

        Regards

        Mirco

        • I think...

By Tom Lyne 2 decades ago

.. I may have found the problem, and it was pretty obvious.

Domino is now running as a service, under the system account for which my networked drive didn't exist.

            Hi again!

I'm sorry, Tom, but i'm backing up to local drive.

Just for records: i've tried both in network mapped drive (mapped by a LS function) and in local drive.

In both that cases kNBackup fails to backup a single database, but backups perfectly entire folder (as mentioned in older posts).

            Hope it helps you.

            Bye!

Mirco, could you send me an email (openntf tomlyne com), so I can send you a different version of knback with more logging.

              Rgds,

                    Here i am!

                    Sorry for the delay..

                    So:

                    -

                    kDName - apps\autodetach\DDT.nsf

                    kFileType - nsf

                    kSubdirectories - No

kTo - z:\domino_backup\ (in the other case was also : "e:\domino_backup\" and "c:\temp")

                    Destination folders already exist.

                    Regards

                    • By Tom Lyne 2 decades ago

You need to change the destination to a full filename, e.g. "z:\domino_backup\DDT.nsf"

                      -tom

                • Re:

By Tom Lyne 2 decades ago

The single database backup should show the destination as a full path to a file, e.g. z:\domino_backup\db.nsf.

Do you have the full path in the backup document? (a directory is only for backing up whole directories)

                  Rgds,

                  Tom

                    Hi.

Following your advice, i've modified my backup document in this way:

                    -

                    kDName - apps\autodetach\DDT.nsf

                    kFileType - nsf

                    kSubdirectories - No

kTo - z:\domino_backup\DDT.nsf (full path included nsf DB name)

                    and the output is:

                    > load knback

                    04/11/2007 21.09.22 kNBack: version 1.04b
