I've put beta 2 code on the dombulletin test site. You can now register , log in, manage your profile, etc…

Be sure to empty your browser cache to get the lastest javascript lib. otherwise you may encouter js error.

I'll keep registration open for some days and if it's ok, will release beta 2 soon after.

    • first remarks on beta2

By Philipp von Klitzing 2 decades ago

      Hi there,

I played with beta2 yesterday and saw a few things that didn't go entirely smoothly:

      • upgrading from beta1 didn't work out, although I tried a couple of things in addition to the upgrade guide (i.e. sign the database again (missing in the upgrade guide), re-save the old postings, delete the browser cache etc and of course create new skins); I'd only get to see plain text with any table backgrounds, borders etc

      • so I created a new Db and copied my HTML after and HTML before from beta1 into the new skin. However I didn't manage to have that displayed, only changing the language (?) in the web preferences then finally did the trick. Problem is now that I have beta1 in quasi-production (nothing important thought, don't worry), but still I wonder how can i get the users to perform that step so that they get the HTML headers back?

      • with beta2 and its new structure I wanted to have new categories, so I had to edit most of the existing postings to adjust the category; unfortunately this had the effect that now my (the admin's) contact data are displayed below the true name of the original poster (e-mail, messenger etc). That prevents also standard "censor" admin tasks from working unnoticed…

      • profile/ preferences: the e-mail field needs to be larger

      • I was a bit confused to see that my server's standard login screen was replaced by the domBB login screen when logging in from inside domBB; I think that is confusing to most users, and also poses a small security risk as users might get used to all kinds of login screens that could actually be created by a hacker looking for plain text passwords. Also, if I fail to enter the correct credentials, then, as a second step, the server's login screen will appear, and that is for sure confusing.

Thanks for releasing beta2, Michael, I've been checking for it almost every day… ;->>
