OpenNTF Mail Experience International - Feature Request: Begging for plain-text view
I tried this one on the original Mail Exp team and since the English release is about to go gold, I thought I'd have another go. What would be really helpful in keeping spam under control would be a plain-text message preview option. While really active virus spam messages are caught by a scanner way back in the SMTP trail, there's another class of annoying message which we can't stop, and Outlook can handle: that is the spam which contains a URL link back to a tag file on a server. These are keyed to the recipient, so the spammer knows that when that file is read, the spam has hit a live address.
There are other uses for "live URLs in emails" as a general technology, and I know that any malicious payloads resulting from this trick should be captured by AV software on a proxy or on the user's PC, but that doesn't deal with non-viral payloads inserted by greedy marketing types - and annoyingly, Outlook already has this problem licked, by having a "plain text" display option.
I've been trying to work out how to implement this myself, but I've realised I don't quite know enough about flipping frameset contents or enforcing the use of a different form to display a document in a frame; if this doesn't get the thumbs-up and make it into this release, can anyone give me a few pointers to work on?
Steve
