• Any feedback on implementing ME 1.7 with 6.0.x clients?

By Terry Boyd 2 decades ago

Great work guys - The interface looks excellent!

My client is currently using your "Mail iV1.2" template, and have been very happy with it.

Their Lotus Notes client base is predominantly 6.0.3 right now, but are planning to upgrade the clients to the 6.5.x codestream within the next 6 months or so. Their Domino servers are already on 6.5.4FP1.

We are currently planning several strategic modifications to the mail template (see these Forum posts for more info.: http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/nd6forum.nsf/0/9daf94967437f2ea85257066007e1a62?OpenDocument & http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/nd6forum.nsf/0/23f5510f119aed7e8525703d001b3b71?OpenDocument).

I'd rather not make the proposed design changes multiple times, and wonder if it would be considered inappropriate (meaning, the client will experience serious difficulties!) to implement ME 1.7 in this environment?

I know that you have answered a similar question earlier in this forum (and please excuse the duplipost), but I am really trying to avoid all of the additional associated work.

    Cheers!

    • Sorry, just saw your most recent reply to a similar enquiry.

Once again… Sorry for the duplipost.

    • Can you just tell me what might be missing if ME1.7 is implemented for 6.0.x clients?

By Terry Boyd 2 decades ago

Sorry to drag this one out, but we have tried with some test clients, and everything looks/works fine.

Obviously though, we may not notice what we can't see.

We have tried opening the same mail databases with both 6.0.x & 6.5.x clients, and the interface seems to appear the same.

If the 6.0.3 users don't notice anything missing, they probably won't complain or miss it, and it will then become additional functionality once they are upgraded to 6.5.x.

However, if there is code which may prevent the correct operation of the messaging features for these clients, then that is something we have to consider more closely.

      Thanks again in advance,

      T.

      • Haven't check all the new functionality but...

… reply and forward icons is not standard in R6, we added that to the mail template.

In 6.5 the functionality is provided for by the Notes Client therefore we pulled the code from ME.

So if you rollout ME on 6.0 you will lose that.
