• VCard Support

By Mike J Perrett 2 decades ago

I did some initial testing with the VCard - Up to now I've always used stationary to add a signature and a VCard to an e-mail.

Was intrigued by this new option in the Template. However, I've noticed that it does not include a Firstname and Lastname in the .VCF file. So when a recipient double clicks the attachment the window allowing them to save the details, they have to go and type the name in manually.

Also not too keen on the position of the VCard file. It is right next to the last word in the memo, which doesn't look very nice. Would also be nice to have a text based sig followed by the VCF, for those recipients whose mail system does not support VCF. I know you can do this already but its plain text. My signature in stationery doc has rich text with mailto: and URL: hotspots as appropriate.

In summary, all you'd need to do is:

Prepend First name and Last name fields to the VCF file. - Needed Anyway!!

Have a checkbox on the form that says Include information as a text signature. (with hotspots).

Have a hide when field to display the text that will be added.

    Thanks

    Mike

I've reported the issue to the guy who wrote the script for VCard support.

If he can come up with a fix, I'll implement it in the next release of the International template.

Unfortunately my email to him just bounced so if anyone knows the contact details for Rudy Crespin, please let me know.

      Cheers,

      Ben

      • Actually it's in the prefs...

By Vince Schuurman/NotesOSS 2 decades ago

… if you open the Calendar Preferences in designer you'll see a couple of hidden fields at the bottom of the vcard tab.

If you unhide those and fill them in it should work.

        • Fixed in ONTF ME Int. 1.1 :O)

The name problem described here as being fixed in ME International 1.1 does not seem to be in ME 1.5.

You'll find 1.5 doesn't contain many of the fixes addressed in templates that I authored. When I left the team, Bruce and Vince went back to their 1.4 template and made some additional changes; all of my fixes etc. were discarded.

I'm still authoring my own templates, but not as part of OpenNTF. My Jaffacake mail template is currently based on Notes 6.5.3 and OpenNTF 1.4. All of the bug fixes I addressed, including the vCard one, are incorporated in this template.

I will shortly be releasing a Notes 6.5.4/OpenNTF 1.5 version.
