• Unable to get PingFM working

By Andrew Welch 1 decade ago

I have tried without sucess to get PingFM working with Widlfire. When I try to add an account I am directed to the url http://ping.fm/key/ which contained two keys, it is not clear which I should use.

I tried copying the "Desktop/ Web Key" and "Mobile Key", but neither seemed to work for me (I get no error message, but the updates never propogate to Ping.FM).

      Hi Brian,

The Desktop/ Web Key is the correct one. You should simply copy it and paste it into the field supplied in WildFire. Perhaps PingFM's server was down. I just sent a status update to Ping through WildFire and it was almost instantaneous. You could also try checking your Ping accounts settings.

      Andrew

I used this and when I try to post to PingFM I get a red X and the status update didn't propagate to any of the sites I had configured with PingFM

What settings on my PingFM account might be causing problems? I use my PingFM account regularly without any problems. I lookd at the various settings and I can't see anything obvious that could be causing problems.

          Hi Brian,

Try Reseting your Key on PingFM and make sure you copy paste the entire string.

On PingFM, make sure the "Enable my account" is checked on the main settings page, and the "Default method" is "Status Updates".

          Regards,

          Andrew

          • Resetting the key didn't help

            By Brian B O'Donovan 1 decade ago

            Andrew,

Thanks for your help. I tried resetting the PingFM key and this didn't help. I also checke that the default method was set to status updates. It might be relevant that I am using Ubuntu - I will try to get a loan of a Windows machine to see if I get different result son Windows.

By the way, have you read the review I posted on my blog comparing WildFire with Status Updaterr. I think it would be great if we could merge these plugins to produce plugin that combines the best of both. The StatusUpdater team are interested so let me know if you would like to discuss.
