• Mail Rules not working for me.

By mark n tomsovic 2 decades ago

    Hello,

I have a Mail Rule setup to move messages with "{SPAM?}" or "spam:" to the Junk Mail folder. I also have a Mail Rule setup to move messages with a certain domain name in the To, subject, or body to a named folder.

Neither of these rules work. They both are enabled, and messages of both types remain in my inbox instead of being moved.

    Any suggestions?

.. if you say ' stay ' in the inbox I assume you mean they are still delivered in the inbox?

The rules do not work on memo's already in the inbox.

I probably should have been more clear.

The rules do not affect any new messages received or existing messages in the Inbox. I sent myself a test message with "{SPAM?}" in the subject line, and another test with "spam:" in the subject line. Both were delivered to my Inbox and not moved to the Junk Mail folder as I expected.

The other rule which attempts to filter by domain did not move my test messages to the appropriate folder either.

I'm running the latest version available for download. Help->About in Lotus Notes shows 6.5.1. I'm not sure what other information I can provide that would be useful but I'm more than willing to troubleshoot any suggestions brought to my attention :)

        Thanks in advance,

        Mark

        • Try this....

By Vince Schuurman 2 decades ago

… first check if the rules are still in the rules folder (if not get them back in there ;))

          Next run Actions/Tools/Reset Mail Rules

          After that enable the rules.

Let me know if it works.

            Thanks for the response.

Unfortunately it still doesn't work. When I went into the Rules Folder the rules are there. I'm under the impression that the rules folder is on the left navigation pane Tools->Rules.

I did the Actions->Tools->Reset Mail Rules, exited the database, and went back in. The rules were then disabled, I re-enabled them.

From there I sent myself a test message with "{SPAM?}" in the subject line and that message went direct into my Inbox and stayed there. A test message for the domain name filter failed as well.. which just checks for xyzdomain.com in to/from/body and moves it to a specified folder.

            What can I try next?

Perhaps this is unrelated. Or perhaps it's a sign that I have a deeper problem somewhere. The Outbox link does not link to my outbox, I'm not sure what it's linking to. If I queue up a message to be sent and hit my workspace, then my Outgoing Internet Mail database, the message is there waiting. If I hit the Outbox within the Mail Experience database it shows nothing.

              Thanks again,

              Mark

I upgraded all mail files and all rules broke. Recreated mail files and rules still do not work.

No more help on this? There has to be something we can 'fix' if we're the only two with this problem.

                  • Try testing with a new database..

By Vince Schuurman 2 decades ago

.. that way we would at least know whether it's related to the database or design.

They don't work for me, either.

Interestingly, I have only one rule.

The rule uses the condition "When sender not in contact list" Then "move to folder - ($Junk Mail)"

This rule does work, messages do get placed in my junk mail folder - however the contact list is not evaluated so all messages get placed in the junk mail folder.

Can you check the (hidden) field internetaddress? It's probably empty. I fixed this in V1.7 which will be released later today.
