• Is anyone there?

    Guys,

I'm keen to get this project going but not on my own, the project needs more database examples and discussion. If anyone would like to help please post a reply.

    • Out of Office Calendar

By Tim Rand 2 decades ago

We have a calendar we use called "outboard" which doesn't handle the request/response dialog, but does post who is out and where. If I can figure out how to post it here, I will. It might make a good start at the process.

Maybe a good idea to create first a project document in the discussion, so that we've a clue about the requirements, features, etc…

      • Project Document

By Gary Cousins 2 decades ago

I'm not sure what a Project Document is, I and two others inherited this project from someone else. Here's a rough idea of what I think is needed:

        1. A notes and web interface for booking time off, vacation/holiday requests.
        2. A method for an employee's team leader to decide whether the request is valid.
        3. If the decision is positive. the request goes to a leave administrator for a final decision and if allowed

at that level the days requested are deducted automatically from the employees annual allowance.

The leave is then shown in the leave calendar.
        4. All decisions to be communicated back to the requestor, the team leader and to the leave administrator.
        5. A method to work out whether the employee has sufficient leave allowance when they book leave.
        6. A method to work out nett days (excluding weekends, public holidays).
        7. Perhaps a way to import your leave into your personal calendar.

I've uploaded my leave tracking database to the project and was promised others although they haven't appeared as yet.

This is where you put in a description about the project and what what its key benefits are as well as minimum requirements, etc. You should be able to update the document since you're now listed as a Master Chef.

      • Releases

By Gregory S Gartland 2 decades ago

I just checked and there are three uploads of sample code, including the original one I uploaded to start this whole thing off. Each one of the samples does something a little better than the others, but your post is exactly what I was looking to do:

        1. Frontload all allowable vacation by employee.
        2. My system also asks employees to choose floating holidays.
        3. Employee chooses all the days they want, then requests approval.
        4. Manager approves vacation requests and approval gets routed back to employee
        5. Vacation gets posted in corporate calendar and days deducted from allowable for that employee
        6. Easy reporting to HR and managers
        7. Security so managers only see THEIR employees to approve.

While I can't run this project, I would be more than happy to contribute.

          Hi Greg,

I think it would be a geat idea if you were on board, afterall you started the project. I can anly see my release on the release page, any idea why I can't see the other two?

I'm at a bit of a loss on how to steer the project, do you have any ideas on what happens next?

            Gary,

I don't know why you can't see the other db entries. I'll assume it has something to do with me relinquishing control to you, and you not having enough authority. Whatever the case, you should probably contact someone at OpenNTF to fix that.

My suggestion would be to first compile a list of functions we want release 1.0 to have. Once we've decided on that, we'll analyze each of the entries to see if we can pull functionality from those. We'll bastardize them all to create a db with all the functionality we can steal. Once that's done, we'll farm out the remaining functions to other programmers.

So we should do a global question to all users asking for functionality requests for version 1.0.

              Greg,

I'll mail the organisers about the issue and post a general request for requests. I'm away on a short holiday until May 4th so maybe you could keep an eye on things while I'm gone.
