• Proposed features list

By Michael BOURAK/ARKITELA 2 decades ago

Here is the feature list I've currently implemented(or planned to). Feel free to give us feedback (what should be added, what is not important etc etc…).

The goal of this project is to mimic some (u know, the famous 80/20 rule) phpBB features and mix them with traditionnal Domino features (for exemple, the board view - classical phpBB stuff - is also threaded with response to main and response to response - classical domino stuff).

Main features of this template currently include:

    • multiple display mode (2 boards including one with hotest topics on the top, 1 framed, 1 classic)
    • multiple skin supports (administrator can create/ customise skins)
    • sticky topics (keep topics on the top)
    • smileys support including smileys on messages (basic support for now: )
    • receive response by email
    • new post since last visit in boards display mode
    • thread map in framed/classic display mode
    • multiple design language via language pack (early development stage)
    • topic categorisation (3 levels)
    • search features
    • Support for Notes clients including 2 "pseudo skins" (classic and lookout theme)
    • Admin via Notes client (web admin planned)
    • designed for performance (light html, intensive server and browser caching, no agent) and customisation (via skins : standard css/ html stuff)

planned enhancements for beta 2 :
    • view filters
    • multiple design language support
    • more smileys and some ubb support
    • better UI for skin managment (using Notes color fields) + support for images customisation (icons etc…)

      other planned enhancements :
    • authenticated users support + user profile managment (signature, prefs storage…)
    • basic admin via web
    • upload files support
    • improved browser support and cleaner HTML
    • who is online
    • stats for administrators
    • lock topics (no more response)

      note:
    • DominoBB is optimised for IE5/6, NS6/7, Mozzila1 on windows and "works" with NS4 and Opera 6 and should work with other platform with NS/IE
    • a demo version will be available soon
    • Enhancement idea

Add some rich text (ala Quickplace/iNotes) to the

message field for users of MSIE. IE has the rich text

editing control installed by default, so you could

consider allow an admin capability to allow rich text

if the audience is using IE. I have worked on this

      extensively, see http://members.cox.net/ahurt/

editor.html for open source example. Feel free to use

this if it might be of any use

On the downside, I realize this would introduce a

feature that is browser specific. Thats why I suggest

an admin controlled capability that can be turned on

based on the known audience…an intranet for example

I have some tab graphics that might be useful for navigating the views in the multi framed approach. Is the response hierarchy captured in DHTML or does the server get hit to expand and collapse.

I think this project will be the second most implemented openntf app out there (second to the mail template) once release.

      Once again Kudos!
