• When viewing pictures from web, the server crashes

By Hans C Koch 2 decades ago

First of all, I'm not sure what causes it, but my server is normally very stable…

    OS: W2K

    Domino 6.0.1

After following the setup guide (this is my first implementation of the database), I created my first gallery, and wanted to check out how it looked from the web. From the frontpage, I selected the newly created gallery, and all the thumbnails came up. Then I clicked on a thumbnail and SLAM the server crashed, and the debugger started to dump my memory.

I restarted the server and tried again (with a different picture). Same effect. Am I the only one that has experienced this?

    Kind regards,

    Hans

Server crashes should never be caused by an application - even a bad one. Please collect the NSD files and send them to IBM Lotus Support for analysis. All you need is your IBM customer number, you will find your support centers telephone number here: http://www-306.ibm.com/software/lotus/support/

Please let me know if I can do anything else.

      • I don't entirely agree with that.

I belive an application can make your server crash. When you start implementing all kinds of API calls, its very easy to 'get your hair stuck in the mailbox'. As I mentioned before, I am not sure wether its my server that is sick or something in the application.

But a server crash CAN come form an application (even a well coded one). And since my server has had no problems before attempting to run the ONPD, I asumed this is was causes it… Allthough I might be wrong.

When I have time I will try to make it crash again, and then I can send you any dump files (if you want them).

      • It was my server...

I just reinstalled my server, and now it works like a kitten

    • Happened here too (server CRASH)

By Paul Ryan 2 decades ago

      OS: W2K

Domino: 6.0 (overlay upgrade from 5.0.8), and then again, after incremental installers, 6.0.2 CF1

Exact same crash behavior Hans reported.

Then incremental-install upgrade to 6.0.3 and no more crash. If NSD dump is of interest, I can provide.

I suggest system requirements be updated to require 6.0.3.

        Hi,

as I discussed before the NSD file could be sent to IBM Lotus Support (everybody with a licensed Domino Server can call support for free) for analysis.

As a native domino application should not crash a Domino server I assume the problem may be with the JAVA agents in the database. I tried the database on 6.0.2CF2 and did not see any crash so this problem may be limited to an specific OS too.

Sorry that I don't have the resources to find an exact answer for the crash, if anybody else in this forum can find the root cause I will be more than happy to fix the problem. In the meanwhile I will recommend the use of Domino 6.0.3 or higher as this version has reported to be stable.
