Body

The DomainPatrol project hosted here on OpenNTF.org is licensed using LGPL.

The scanner files needed to use the DomainPatrol project is not open source. - It is a commercial licensed product. (Which you can run for free if you want to).

My intension is to continue to contribute code to the open source community in this way and i think all of us will benefit from it.
- The commercial customers that want supported code, a solid product, updates, upgrades and a long time commitment from us, will pay the money to keep the wheels turning.
- The non commercial customers that do not want to pay any money for all of this - well, I hope to satisfy them to - by giving it to them for free.
- All users of the product will benefit from the fact that parts of this solution comes as open source.
1. You will have the opportunity to implement your own specific models in the domainpatrol database.
2. You can reuse code, implemented in the DomainPatrol database.
3. The DomainPatrol database can implement code that has been licensed as open source from other projects.

Concidering that DomainPatrol has turned out to be a very popular tool used by many administrators I think it is a pretty good thing that we have been able to give you the opportunity to run this for free.

The alternatives would probably be that
1. We all stop eating - so we do not need any money - And just work to satisfy everyone for free.
2. The open sourced parts of DomainPatrol is not maintained and this project will die - replaced by the commercial one on our own web site.

Well - when that is said - I still don't see your point?

Is commercialism wrong?
Is open source wrong?
Is free wrong?
Is combining these wrong?

If you want to lead my doings into something that is better than what I am delivering to you right now - please do!

Best regards,

Peter Närlund
