Hello everyone!
It has been some time now since I released any code or even participated in any discussions.
Well I have not abandoned the DomainPatrol project as some of you might have thought, on the contrary I have been so busy working on the new release - I have had no time to follow the community activities for a while. I hope this will change rapidly now when version 4 is just around the corner.
Actually I demonstrated DomainPatrol v4 at the Admin/Developer 2007 conference in Barcelona this week and I got tremendous feedback on the user interface and the new functions for displaying database dependencies.
We have done some heavy work on the user interface and context help system for the end users. - I also hope that it will soon be pretty clear that the licensing model that we have decided on will give much back to the community.
Things that are good open source functions in this release are the integrated context sensitive help including field tip balloon popups also have a look at the coloring of documents in the different views. I have also rewritten the functions for handling license files. I will eventually post this as a separate demo database for anyone to use as their implementation for license handling. These things among others will be valuable as open source to the community.
DomainPatrol v4 will be in gold release before Lotussphere 2008 - Thats a promise. We will also be at the showcase pretty close to the Lotus "gadget" store.
I hope that you will like the new version and also that you will have great value from what it delivers as a product. As with release 3 it will be totally free to run the scanner from your workstation. And the DomainPatrol database will still be released as open source.
I'm looking forward to your feedback on this release and any help on tracking down bugs as well.
