When you audit something, you want to capture "notable events". In most cases, the deletion of a document *is* a "notable event". Thus, removing audit records for deleted documents might be contrary to the intention.

Maybe an archive might help -- move entries of deleted documents into another data store (in the same or another database) is the way to go.

Thus, as usual, the feature should be configurable and not just cast into the product.
