• How to use (parts of) ExtLib without installation?

By Bernd Preusing 1 decade ago

    Hello,

    just one question:

I'm not allowed to install files on customer servers AND I'm relatively new to Java and all of its surroundings.

Is it possible to use specific elements/controls of the Extension Library inside a .NSF directly as normal custom controls?

If the answer is yes, how should I begin?

    Thanks in advance

That is a really good questions, I like.

I guess it is possible to attch the exlib jar to the application and use the available classes to do stuff, but what I really would like to see is a custom control version of the different features that can reside only in the nsf.

The extlib is not designed to work from WEB-INF/lib in an NSF. Despite the fact that a few people tried it and had relative success, I can tell you that it leads to issues, as not all the extension points will be honored.

But 853 now allows you to deploy OSGi plugins within an NSF. So you can deploy the plug-ins this way and replicate them through your servers.

Also, IBM is going to support the extlib as an add-on, so this should help you getting it installed on your customer servers.
