• Notes initialization failure - err 421

    Could someone help?

    I encoutered below error.

    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.Exception: Notes initialization failure - err 421

    Could you please advice me how to solve this error.

    Should I change some settings on Notes?

      This error looks similar to the one I was experiencing. May just want to check the .bat file and the path to the Notes directory. It is default to C:\Lotus\Notes but yours may actually be C:\Notes.

        I'm writing this post from rainy Tokyo.

        OK, I'll check all the parameters ,especially the location of Notes, and perform test again.

        Unfortunately, I'm now at home but I can use Notes only at my office.

        So, I'm gonna do it at tomorrow morning Tokyo time because it's almost 1:00am.

      Hi,

      You are also in Tokyo, aren't you ? Let's go to bed now.



      Err 421 means that notes.exe can't find notes.ini file. Is your notes.ini file in notes program directory ? If not, it doesn't work. Please try to locate your notes.ini in notes program directory and run again.

        Thanks for your help.

        Good evening, indeed we should go to bed as soon as possible. It is only Tuesday today…



        As you pointed out, as far as I remember about my environment, notes.ini is not located in the same directory as Notes.exe.

        Tomorrow, I will start from putting notes.ini into the Notes.exe's directory.

          Hi Ohkawa-san,



          Sorry for the delay and thank you for your prompt reply.



          Last Wednesday, I finally succeeded in sync.

          In my environment, notes.ini was located at Y:\DATA\Notes.

          I simply added this filepath to the setenv directive on the bat file.
