• JDBC - define connection globally (for server)

By Karsten Kropp 1 decade ago

    Hello,

I want to take my JDBC-connection file and place it globally on the server. So, I can use the connection within different NSF.

How does this work? Where must I place the JDBC-File(s)?

(The ODP-documentation slides says "The server can contain resources files, .jdbc, in data/properties, that defines the connections (one file=one connection).". But when I put the file to \properties it doesn't work (even after server restart). Where is my mistake?)

    Kind regards

    Karsten

      Hi Karsten,

Global connections support is not yet implemented while architecture is ready for that. We are planning to post in some near future a separate document on that for additional discussion, because an idea behind that is to store such global connection definition under some specific nsf on your Domino server with maybe possible access inforcement on who from Lotus infrasturcture point of view could utilize them.

In the meantime you are restricted to .jdbc connection definition per NSF application.

If you may have any ideas on how you'd manage global JDBC connections from Domino administrator point of view - please post them here, so we could take that into consideration during next iteration.

                Hi Andrejus,

                thank you for your response.

In my point of view it is a good idea to save the connections under a specific nsf file. Will there be a workaround or a solution for global connections in the near future?

I have to switch the the "object navigator" to see the jdbc-File. Is it possible to store the file into the file folder, so that I mustn't switch the view? (I have seen this in the demo video)

  • There will be a solution

    Hi Karsten,

there will be a solution and not workaround for golbal connections support. The only stopper behind that right now is that we want to discuss first with broader Lotus auditory on how to enable that in the best manageable way. If there wil be no big response to that new document - we'll probably go then on our own and provide implementation. We'll have that proposal soon.

    Hi Karsten,

While architecture is there - global connections support is not yet implemented. We are planning to post soon one such document for discussion on how it would be best to achieve with some thoughts from our side.

Currently you are restricted to use .jdbc connection definition per NSF application.

If you may have any ideas on how it would be best to use from Domino administrator point of view and would like to share here - that could be taken into consideration later.
