• Multiple server support

By Hynek Kobelka 2 decades ago

    Hi,

i just briefly tested the application and it looks very nice.

Will be really usefull on servers that replicate with "outsiders".

However I did not find any support for more servers. How is this intended ? To have always one datbases per server ?

I woul much rather have inside the document a field with the servername. Then I could manage the teplates on several servery from one database.

Or am i missing here something…

Oh yes and the design is really "unique" :-))

I guess it will take only weeks to get acustomed to it :-)

Bye and thanks for the database.

PS: Shouldnt there be a coctail somewhere …

    • Yeah, I thought about the multiple server support...

But here are the issues I had with it:

      1) many of the templates are set to allow ONLY the server where it resides to have access to it; noone else, no other server.

      2) I was worried about my "Run On Server" agent having access to other servers (remember that server-based agents can only act locally, not across servers - security issue)

      3) I thought that it would be a better tool to have per-server, rather than on all servers

      However….

I am thinking about doing a more "robust" version of Surely Template based on some requests I have had from people. This one will be much larger and more functional, and will probably have something closer to multi-server support. However, it will probably be a product that is sold, not open source. But with that said, I am still committed to keeping Surely Template free and available, and I will continue to enhance it.

Oh, and yes Surely would love to have a cocktail with you - she loves admin types :)

      • Access ...

By Hynek Kobelka 2 decades ago

        Hi,

if you have problems with access to some of the templates then think about an agent that would run with "Full administration rights". This could be easily triggered even from the front-end using ".RunOnServer".

        Just an idea.

        PS:

        SHIRLEY TEMPLE COCKTAIL

        Ingredients

8 oz Club soda (or 7-Up)

        1 oz Grenadine syrup

        1 sl Orange

        1 Red maraschino cherry

        Procedure

        ***

Mix soda and grenadine syrup. Serve in tall glass with straw, garnished with orange and maraschino.

        • Good idea, except that I need...

to maintain R5 backwards compatability. I believe that Full Administration Rights for an agent is an ND6 feature, right? If it isn't, then let me know how to accomplish it.

          Thanks!

          P.S. Nice recipe ;)
