• Log Document

By Bruce Langner 2 decades ago

I have been thinking I could re-use an existing log document, similar to the Notes Server Log documents, however I cannot see any way in the current code so to do. After thinking about it for a while I realise that it probably isn't feasible.

The Notes Server Log document only has one user - the server, whereas in the Flow system you would have multiple users trying to access the same document and so just end up with rep saves.

I like the option of just having one Log document as a single repository (or summary) of all the goings on. Perhaps a scheduled agent could bring all the log document contents together into a master log based on a [default] date/time and user structure, although it may be best to have the master log content structure dictated by administrator/user choices in the [optional] flow profile.

This entry suffers from stream of consciousness and may not make sense. Let me know if this is a useful discussion or whether it has already been thought of, tried and dismissed.

    • Interesting idea

First off, let me apologize for not responding sooner. I am still getting used to be managing a project here and didn't think to check the discussion section until now.

I think I followed your train of thought. Correct me if I am wrong, but you are talking about a master log document that all or selected agents would write to. So, rather than each agent having its own log document as it is currently setup, each agent would write to the same document. That is an interesting idea. I will have to give that some thought. I can foresee some technical issues right off the bat such as multiple agents wanting to write to the same document at the same time and that there would need to be a way to handle that gracefully so that all agents get their turn while at the same time not forcing agents to wait too long for access to the document.

Thanks for giving me something to think about, Bruce! And, in the future, if I fail to respond please feel free to e-mail me.
