• dots startup problems

By Harald Albers 1 decade ago

I am occasionally experiencing startup problems with dots.</div>

    After issuing &quot;load dots&quot;, I get:</div>

    &nbsp;</div>

&nbsp; &nbsp; No Message Queue with that name.</div>

&nbsp; &nbsp; 09.09.2011 14:54:56 &nbsp; An error occurred while opening the Message Queue: No Message Queue with that name.</div>

    &nbsp;</div>

In most cases, a subsequent call will successfully start the dots container.</div>

This only happens on my Windows XP development machine, not on Linux, so usually I do not care much.</div>

    &nbsp;</div>

    &nbsp;</div>

But now I am evaluating the osginsf sites and the problems occur on every launch attempt with an osginsf site included in the default profile.</div>

File based update sites do work, though (please add to the documentation that dots expects the update site in an eclipse subdirectory and that after changing site declarations, you should delete the javaddin workspace in order to get rid of cached bundle information).</div>

    &nbsp;</div>

The startup log proves that dots successfully detects the tasklets in the osginsf sites.</div>

Debugging shows that the problem occurs immediatly after returning from ServerTaskManager.processCommand().</div>

    &nbsp;</div>

I suspect that there is some kind of timeout in the C routines that call the launcher.</div>

Has anybody else experienced similar problems?</div>

    &nbsp;</div>

    &nbsp;</div>

    Environment details:</div>

Lotus Domino (r) Server, Release 8.5.2FP3</div>

Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3, german</div>

    OSGi bundles from Eclipse 3.6.1 &amp; 3.6.2</div>

    Javaddin 1.4, 1.5, 1.6 and 1.6.1</div>

    • I will investigate

By David Taieb 1 decade ago

So right now, you can reproduce this problem every time and this is blocking you from using osginsf based plugins?

      • Yes,on Windows

By Harald Albers 1 decade ago

Yes, in this special case it causes dots startup to fail every time and it prevents me to use the feature on Windows.

On linux, everything seems to be working.

        • additional information

By Harald Albers 1 decade ago

There is another symptom that ocasionally occurs when starting DOTS. I do not get it in this special case (osginsf site), though.</div>

Domino reports an error on ndots.EXE. When this happens, I have to restart the Domino server. It will then hang on terminating the last task.

I am attaching a really weired console output:

          • I'm still trying to reproduce the problem

By David Taieb 1 decade ago

            <p>
Although I&quot;ve seen it happen a few times in the past, I can&#39;t reproduce it anymore with your scenario. I&#39;ll keep investigating on that.</p>
            <p>
About the domino server crash that follows, this is because of unpaired NotesThread.sinitThread/NotesThread.stermThread. It can happen if you while in the debugger, you modify some code and hot replace jumps the current execution stack back to the beginning of the frame causing a stermThread to not be executed.</p>

  • Provided enhancement in 1.6.2

I added code to re-create the message queue if necessary. Can you please try it to see if it fixes your problem.

    thanks

    • I am setting up a new test environment

By Harald Albers 1 decade ago

      Thanks for the quick response.

I am currently setting up a new testing environment. If the problem persist, I can make the VM available to you.

I expect to have results by tomorrow.

      • no problems any more.

By Harald Albers 1 decade ago

        Dear David,

In DOTS 1.6.2 there are no more startup problems on my development machine.

It also runs perfectly on a test VM (Windows XP) and on a "productive" system (Debian linux).

Thank you very much for the effort spent in fixing this issue. The improved scheduling capabilities are very welcome, too.

        Harald
