• ExtLib and Version 9

By Steve Smillie 1 decade ago

I have some apps using the ExtLibx stuff.  Since version 9 has the ExtLib already, can I install only the 8.5.3 ExtLibx to make my app work on version 9 servers and DDE?
Or should I wait for ExtLib release for version 9?

We'd also like to have the latest features including Twitter library integration - but need to know if installing the latest version of the Extension Library offered here to our 'official' IBM Domino 9 server will invalidate any IBM technical support we might otherwise ask for in connection with the features supplied in the 'official' ExtLib installed with Domino 9.

      • Response: OpenNTF ExtLib

By Padraic Edwards 1 decade ago

        Hi Steve and David,
I would like to address your questions around ExtLibX and the future 9.0 OpenNTF Extension Library (ExtLib) releases. Let me start with some good news in saying that we are nearing the release of the first 9.0 OpenNTF release. I would wait for the first 9.0 OpenNTF release as it has some changes to allow for co-existence of both the IBM supported 9.0 ExtLib and the OpenNTF ExtLib releases going forward. We will also be providing a ExtLibX only updateSite.

To your question around installing the initial 9.0 release of the OpenNTF ExtLib , there is no point with the first release as they are equivalent at present to what is in the official 9.0 IBM ExtLib but in theory once you install an ExtLib OpenNTF version you are no longer officially supported by IBM (only by the community). Initially it should make no difference as the plugins and features for ExtLib are the same but they will diverge over time. With the 9.0 OpenNTF release you can choose to install the Social and Relational features in ExtlibX only (as in not the ExtLib). You will also be able to revert from an OpenNTF installed release to the supported IBM base 9.0 release.

We will be including documentation around the changes as part of the first 9.0 OpenNTF release.

        Thanks,
        Padraic
