• proprietary code included?

By Takeshi Fukuda 1 decade ago

I have reported a defect regarding license.txt that comes with v2.4.

The release page says that the software is licensed under GPL3 that grants distributing and modifying the software freely.

But license.txt prohibits distributing and modifying the software.

    Which is correct?

Since the IP Policy of OpenNTF.org allows only two license models, Apache or GPL, you would probably have to

    • license the entire software under Apache or GPL3; or
    • remove proprietary pieces of code from the software so that it can be released under Apache or GPL3.

Anyway, license.txt is incompatible with the permissible license models and the IP Policy of OpenNTF.org, so it must be removed.

If you wantedto keep your professional version valuable, I guess you would like the latter option.

I hope you understand what I mean.

Goocalsync makes use of libraries created by Muneyuki Ohkawa which were released under the Apache license; SLR Software used the Apache libraries and made some improvements to them which can be summarised as follows:

Making the Application available in one integrated  Lotus Notes database rather than a separate Java program controlled by a batch file.

Allowing the Application to run on schedule using the built in scheduled agent functionality available through Lotus Notes.

The resulting Application is owned by SLR Software and is protected by copyright.

Whilst the Application was available as open source i.e. the source code was fully available and the project was free for anyone to use the license options have now been restricted for software released on Openntf to Apache or GNU – there used to be an option “see software for license information” which provided the necessary copyright protection for this project as such we have had to withdraw the latest release(s).

Release version v1.01 is still available for download under the Apache license.

      • you misunderstand what GPL is

You completely misunderstand what GNU General Public License is.

You should read the following documents first.
