Can't get Connection feeds

Installed without trouble. Setup preferences: Profiles server https://ourhost:9443/profiles, put in proper credentials.

Can post updates to my Connections board, but none of the "Connections Updates from…" feeds ever finish.

"Show All…" seem to all work, with All My Feeds and My Friends showing nothing (which is probably correct) and "Show All Feeds from Everyone" showing my Connections feeds, but also a lot of unknown feeds (twitter? not using it).

Initially, thought the connections feeds issue may have been an internet certificate problem, but I believe I managed to resolve that (particularly as I see my Connections board stuff in the "Show All Feeds from Everyone" now).
