Feature type:Functionality
Brief Description:Text-only preview/message display?
Status:Rejected

Details
There's a registry key which stops Outlook from rendering any 'active' code in a mail message, effectively making the message plain text, and preventing IE exploits and live virus loads from firing off. I've seen a couple of places now where they receive 'active' virus payloads into Notes and the preview pane being open is enough to infect the machine - generally this is older viruses on machines where the user has been lazy about anti-virus updates (or laptops left in a drawer, all those kinds of problems)...

So what would be nice is something like a preference setting in the file which forces the use of @ABSTRACT() or similar on the content of the Body, so that what's displayed is dead as mutton until someone presses "see rendered original" or whatever; that way, people with risky email addresses or a need to work on email streams which may contain viruses or malware don't suffer when they forget to close the preview pane...
