Without wishing to labour the point.... ;-) we did create a version of ACLHelp called ACLHelpX a couple of years ago for one client (internal use only) which allowed them to change an ACL with ECA on. This worked fine. So maybe you are trying to make a change to the ACL with the Notes client rather than a server task? They do seem to behave differently.
